In recognition of her remarkable artistic career and enduring contribution to Arab music, Egyptian icon Najat Al Saghira was honored by the Sheikh Zayed Book Award 2026, which named her the Cultural Personality of the Year in its 20th edition. The honor coincided with the 35th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which kicked off on September 13 and concludes tomorrow.
Najat Al Saghira made a rare public appearance during the ceremony, following an absence of more than a year. She received the award from Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, who presented her with a certificate of appreciation, AED 1 million, and a gold medal in recognition of her significant contribution to enriching Arab music and strengthening the presence of classical Arabic song.
The ceremony, held at ADNEC Abu Dhabi as part of the cultural programme accompanying the book fair, was marked by an atmosphere of admiration and appreciation for Najat Al Saghira. Journalists and cultural figures expressed their affection and happiness at seeing the legendary singer make her appearance this year.
Najat Al Saghira’s return also sparked widespread reactions across social media, with users expressing their joy at seeing the beloved singer again after years away from the spotlight.
Ahlam Al Shamsi Honors Najat Al Saghira in a Special Tribute
On the sidelines of the award ceremony, Najat Al Saghira met Emirati singer Ahlam Al Shamsi, who celebrated her presence in Abu Dhabi to receive the prestigious honor.
Ahlam shared a glimpse of their special meeting with her fans and followers, posting a video on social media in which she performed her iconic song “Akthar Min Awal Ahebbak” for the legendary singer. She captioned the video: “Akthar Min Awal Ahebbak, the voice of love, the great Najat. My heart could not contain our joy at having you with us today. And thank you for all the beautiful words that delighted our ears.”
Najat, in turn, praised Ahlam’s voice and performance, admitting that she had been mistaken for not listening to her before, particularly as her voice “goes straight to the heart.”
