Mohamed Ramadan’s upcoming series Ashmawy, set to air during Ramadan 2027, has sparked widespread controversy over the past few days following announcements regarding the participation of several stars and the withdrawal of others. The developments have put the series in the spotlight, dominating audience interest and social media searches months ahead of its premiere.
Ghada Abdel Razek revealed yesterday through an Instagram Story that she has officially withdrawn from the series, following reports that she would appear as a guest star in the upcoming production.

Ghada also reshared statements by producer Mamdouh Shaheen, who confirmed that he had signed her exclusively for Ramadan 2027, making it difficult for her to participate in other productions.
Commenting on the matter, Ghada wished the cast and crew of Ashmawy, as well as all the productions taking part in the upcoming Ramadan season, success, saying: “I wish all the productions participating in Ramadan 2027 the best of luck and success, God willing.”
Ghada Abdel Razek is set to star in two series during Ramadan 2027, each consisting of 15 episodes: Rouh wa Gasad, written by Shady Mohsen and Amgad El Sharkawy and directed by Amir Shawky, and Khoyout Men Dahab, written by Ayman Salama and directed by Ahmed Hassan.
Mai Omar to Star Opposite Mohamed Ramadan in Ashmawy as Mohamed Sami Joins as a Guest Star

Director Peter Mimi made a major announcement through his Facebook account, revealing that director Mohamed Sami will join Ashmawy as a guest actor. He said: “I haven’t announced any of the stars in the cast of Ashmawy because that is a matter for the production company and the channel, but I can announce that star Mohamed Sami is joining us as a guest actor in the series.”
Egyptian actress Mai Omar has also officially announced that she will headline Ashmawy opposite Mohamed Ramadan. She made the announcement on the sidelines of her attendance at the 2026 Arab Satellite Festival, where she received the Best Actress award for her series Al Set Monaliza.
Screenwriter Ahmed Mourad had previously withdrawn from writing Ashmawy. He did not issue a statement or reveal the reasons behind his departure from the project. It was later announced that screenwriter Mohamed Ismail Amin would take over writing the episodes.
The makers of Ashmawy are continuing preparations for the series and finalizing deals with the remaining cast members. So far, in addition to Mohamed Ramadan and Mai Omar, actors Bassem Samra and Essam El Sakka have officially joined the cast.
