Amal Maher to Soul Arabia: “My Husband Is the First to Support Me, and True Love Is Trust and Freedom”

Patience, strength, challenge, hope, these are the words that best describe the journey of Egyptian artist Amal Maher, a singer who has carved her own path to success with relentless ambition and a passion for her art that has never wavered. Despite the challenges and difficulties she has faced throughout her career, she continues her ascent without pause.

In an exclusive interview with Soul Arabia, Amal Maher speaks about the details of her recent concerts in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and Paris, France, responding to the rumours that circulated around them, discussing the success of her latest song “Bagi Bil Hurriya,” her upcoming artistic projects, and the unwavering support of her husband Ali Mahjoub.

Your European concerts in Holland and Paris achieved tremendous success and wide resonance. What was the atmosphere like, and did they require exceptional preparation?

I was very happy with these concerts and their atmosphere, as well as the audience’s reaction and interaction, which was more than wonderful. As for the behind-the-scenes preparation, we began months in advance to ensure everything reached this level. The biggest challenge was holding both concerts on two consecutive nights, which required enormous effort and focus from me and the band members to ensure both performances came out in the best possible way.

The audience welcomed you warmly and interacted with the songs, but which song received the most requests and the greatest reaction?

“Barsha Barsha” was the most interactive song with the audience. I had not planned to sing it on stage, but after the audience sang “Bnihibak Barsha” to me, I decided to perform it spontaneously, and everyone sang along with me.

You performed on the stage of Casino de Paris, where some of the world’s greatest singers have stood. What memory or moment from that exceptional evening will stay with you forever?

What will stay with me most is the love I felt from the audience. I found people of different Arab nationalities, from Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other Arab countries, all gathered in one place, singing along with me to every song. It confirmed for me that art unites the Arab nation and that love has no geographical borders. I will also never forget how they greeted me with congratulations and traditional Arab zaghareet the moment I stepped onto the stage.

Many rumours circulated before these concerts about audience turnout, but you handled it with calm. How did you receive that in the beginning, and were you worried it might affect the audience?

Honestly, I have great trust in the audience. By nature, I always focus on my work alone, if I stopped at every word said about me, I would not be able to continue my journey. I always prefer to respond through my work and my success, and I put all my focus into delivering work that is worthy of my audience, who support me and stand by me at all times.

Let us talk about your new song “Bagi Bil Hurriya,” which has achieved millions of views on YouTube and various music platforms. What has the response been like?

This song has a wonderful spirit and energy, and it has achieved great success with the audienc, especially among young women. Every girl found that the song expressed something about her and her star sign, which helped it spread widely.

Do you feel this song reflects a lot of who Amal Maher is?

Absolutely, “Bagi Bil Hurriya” represents me. I am someone who loves calm, comfort, and freedom. I do not like to feel constrained. If you give me my space, you will certainly win my heart and my love. I believe true love is trust and comfort, each partner giving the other their space and freedom. But doubt in love ends it quickly.

You have a distinctive vocal style, but recent years have seen many different musical experiments emerge. Could you surprise your audience with a new musical direction, or do you prefer not to take that risk?

I believe diversity in musical styles is important for any artist, you must always challenge yourself and explore new experiences. But there is one essential condition: it must suit your own sensibility and personality. Even if it surprises the audience at first, the experience itself is valuable. New generations have their own musical tastes, and an artist must stay aware and connected to what is happening around them. Art, like life, involves experiments and changes, and an artist must present it with honesty and enjoyment for it to truly reach people.

What new musical work are you preparing for summer 2026, singles or a full album?

I am currently preparing a new single, which will be a surprise. All the songs I am working on now will be released individually.

Every artist needs passion and ambition to keep delivering their best. How does Amal Maher renew her passion for art?

I always follow everything new being released, whether in Egypt or abroad, and I listen to different musical styles, it gives me energy, passion, and enthusiasm to present new experiences. I feel all the time that I have so much more to give, no matter how much success I achieve, and so many more dreams ahead. That is what keeps my passion alive and reminds me that I have not reached the end of the road, the best is still to come.

Hope, patience, strength, challenge, words that carry a great deal. How would you describe each of them in relation to yourself?

Hope is what I live by, it is the banner I always carry. As long as there is day and night and life, hope remains, and there is no room for despair or darkness.

Patience, I could speak about this at length. I was not a patient person at all before; I was always impulsive. But I changed completely. I am not sure whether motherhood was the reason, but it made me more mature and more patient.

Strength, people always say I am strong, and I believe every woman should be strong and able to face whatever comes. When I see any woman or girl feeling weak, I try to support and strengthen her. But weakness can sometimes itself become a source of strength.

Challenge, that is my game. I am someone who loves challenge above all else. I challenge myself whenever I try something new and feel genuine enjoyment in it, whether it is choosing a different song or a new style. If the experience succeeds, I feel great happiness, and if it does not work out, I learn from it. A person is always learning and developing throughout their life.

Your husband Ali Mahjoub stood by you during the recent rumours. What is your message to him?

He is always by my side. He is a responsible person who has carried responsibility since childhood, so he has a heightened sense of it at all times, and that is one of the things I respect most about him. By nature, I also carry responsibility and have faced many things on my own, with my family beside me. But his presence in my life has given me a sense of reassurance and someone to lean on, someone who shares the responsibility with me.

Ali is my first audience and my love. He is the first person to listen to my work, and the first to support me before every concert, before I go on stage to face the audience. His confidence in me and in every step I take gives me great peace of mind.

What are the most notable traits you share?

We are very similar, like one person. We both love sports and the gym, healthy food, and our taste in fashion is alike.

How do you spend your time away from singing and artistic commitments, and is there a hobby your audience does not know about?

I love travelling very much, and after getting married I developed a love for cooking. But the hobbies closest to my heart are travelling and shopping.

The Egyptian national team achieved a historic milestone at the 2026 World Cup. How would you describe the moments the Egyptian people experienced after this achievement?

The Egyptian team brought happiness to Egypt and the entire Arab world, and instilled a sense of belonging in the younger generations, who were eager to cheer for the team and wear its jersey. This joy that we are living was something we had missed for a long time, but it has returned.

You have a catalogue of patriotic songs. Are you thinking of releasing a new patriotic song soon to celebrate this achievement?

Absolutely, I hope to. I feel immense pride when I sing for my country.
