Giorgio Armani has not launched a new men’s fragrance pillar in over 20 years. So when the house finally decides to break that silence, you listen, and when you see who they chose to front it, everything starts to make sense. Jonathan Bailey, one of the most compelling actors working right now, has been named Global Fragrance Ambassador for I Will, Armani’s new masculine Eau de Parfum launching this August, and the pairing feels less like a casting decision and more like an inevitability.
The Scent Itself

I Will is an Oriental Woody fragrance created by master perfumers Alberto Morillas and Nathalie Lorson. It opens with bergamot and cardamom, moves through a heart of lavender and violet leaf, and settles into a warm base of Madagascan bourbon vanilla, woody notes, and a refined leather accord. It is sophisticated without trying too hard, restrained in the way that only genuinely confident things can afford to be. The tagline, “It’s not about luck, it’s about will,” says everything about the direction Armani wanted to take this in.
Why Bailey, Why Now

Bailey was chosen because he brings, in Armani’s own words, “a distinctive balance of charisma, discipline and authenticity.” That is not just campaign language. After Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers, and Wicked, Bailey has built a reputation as someone who brings genuine interior life to everything he touches, and that quality translates. He spoke about how fragrance plays a real role in his acting process, revealing that every character he portrays has a distinct scent that helps him understand who that person is beyond what is written on the page. For a fragrance campaign, that is a remarkably thoughtful thing to say, and it lands because you believe him.
The late Giorgio Armani was involved in the entire conception of the fragrance and its narrative, a detail that clearly moved Bailey deeply. “I felt very moved and felt the loss of Mr. Armani,” he said. There is something quietly poignant about that, a new chapter for the house, carrying the fingerprints of its founder.
The Bigger Picture
The campaign was directed by Todd Field, the filmmaker behind Tár, which immediately tells you this is not going to be a standard fragrance commercial. Bailey had just visited the Barbican theatre, where he began his professional acting career at the age of six, when he received the call about the project. “It was a very beautiful alignment,” he said.
For a scent built around the idea of quiet determination over loud ambition, there is probably no better face in the world right now. Armani waited twenty years. It was worth it.
