Tony Ward Shines at the Fashion Trust US Awards

Sampaio stepped onto the pink carpet in a Tony Ward FW25 Haute Couture gown featuring a structured strapless corset bodice.

The Fashion Trust U.S. held its fourth annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 7, at Nya Studios in Los Angeles, an evening dedicated to celebrating and funding emerging American design talent. The room was emerald-draped, the guest list was formidable, and the pink carpet delivered exactly what a fashion crowd expects: a competition of silhouettes. Among the names, houses, and labels that showed up that night, one stood out for readers of Soul Arabia in particular. Tony Ward made it to Los Angeles on the back of Sara Sampaio.

The Look

Sara Sampaio in A Tony Ward FW25 Haute Couture Gown

Sampaio stepped onto the pink carpet in a Tony Ward FW25 Haute Couture gown featuring a structured strapless corset bodice. The silhouette hugged her frame, while the draped skirt flowed softly to the floor. The standout detail came from sharp cutouts at the waist, which added a modern edge, making the look feel both refined and daring. The pastel blue fabric enhanced the overall softness, while the gathered draping created a wrapped, gift-like effect, with a subtle train adding movement as she walked. It was a gown that read couture from every angle, structured where it needed to be, fluid where it could afford to be.

The House Behind It

For those in this region, Tony Ward needs little introduction. Born in Beirut in 1970, Ward is the son of Elie Ward, a couturier. He enrolled at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris at eighteen, then went on to train with Claude Montana at Lanvin, Gianfranco Ferré at Dior, and Karl Lagerfeld at Chloé, three of the sharpest minds the industry has ever produced. He carried all of that back to Beirut and launched his own label in 1997. His father, Elie, had opened the Ward atelier in 1952, dressing Lebanese high society during the country’s golden age. Tony took that foundation and built something international out of it, without ever leaving Beirut behind.

Aptly called “The Architect of Detail,” Ward draws his inspiration from contemporary architecture, envisioning sculptural forms and playing with the boundaries of light and transparency. That description fits the Sampaio gown exactly: it was architectural in structure, soft in execution, and precise in every cut.

Why It Matters

An event like the Fashion Trust US Awards is, at its core, about visibility, putting designers in front of the people and cameras that matter. The fact that Tony Ward’s couture landed on one of the night’s most photographed guests, at an event dedicated to the future of fashion, is the kind of placement that means something. It is a reminder that the Arab world’s couture houses are not waiting for an invitation to the global stage. They are already on it.
