Universal Pictures’ One Night Only celebrated its New York premiere on Monday night at the SVA Theater, drawing a stacked red carpet ahead of the romantic comedy’s August 7th theatrical release. The film stars Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro as Owen and Allie, two strangers navigating New York City on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal, a premise that has generated considerable online conversation since the trailer landed.
Director Will Gluck, known for Easy A and Anyone But You, attended alongside a broad supporting cast including Molly Ringwald, Julia Fox, Maya Hawke, Este Haim, Ziwe, King Princess, Ben Marshall, Nicholas Braun, Michelle Hurd, LeVar Burton, Okieriete Onaodowan and Quintessa Swindell.
Dua Lipa
The evening marked Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s first red carpet appearance as a married couple, following their London civil wedding, a celebration in Sicily, and a honeymoon across Italy. Lipa wore a custom Ferragamo gown designed by Maximilian Davis and styled by Lorenzo Posocco, a dramatic black dress with a plunging halter neckline, semi-sheer panels, dramatic fringing and a low open back, accessorised with Bulgari Serpenti earrings. The look struck a deliberate balance, delivering plenty of impact while maintaining an understated elegance appropriate to the occasion; she did not try to steal her husband’s spotlight, which is no easy feat when you are Dua Lipa, but the fringing and movement in the gown made sure the craftsmanship registered regardless.
Monica Barbaro
Barbaro, the Oscar-nominated actress leading the film opposite Turner, wore Dior, a flowing white gown accented with a pale yellow and blue floral shoulder detail that looked like its single point of visual interest without disrupting the clean line of the dress. Speaking on the carpet, she discussed her character Allie’s arc, noting that the role extends beyond a straightforward romantic lead.
The After Party
Following the screening, guests headed to Crane Club, where Cole Sprouse, Andrew Garfield and King Princess were among those photographed at the after party. Johnnie Walker curated the cocktail programme, with Blue Manhattans and Blue Label on the rocks served alongside pizza, a nod, presumably, to Turner’s character owning a pizza shop.
