The long running series about the affairs of the royal family was recognized in categories including leading actor for the remarkable effort put in by Dominic West for his portrayal of Prince Charles, as well as supporting actress, which sees Elizabeth Debicki go up against Lesly Manville for their portrayals of Princess Diana and Princess Margaret.
This success comes after a series of harsh criticisms for the previously critically acclaimed television series, with many reacting negatively against what they say as sentimental shock factor moments like the appearance of the ghost of Diana, along with other “ridiculous scenes” like the vision of Tony Blair being crowned as king.

Close on The Crown’s trail, Black Mirror received seven nominations for its season finale, getting a nomination for best limited drama, as well as leading actress for Anjana Vasan’s performance. Several shows received 6 nominations, including Apple TV’s Slow Horses, a spy drama about a bunch of washed up MI5 agents, the Sixth Commandment, a crime drama starring Timothy Spall as well as the last season of crime drama Happy Valley, which among other nominations received best drama series as well as best actress for Sarah Lanchasire’s role as Catherine Cawood.
