A subject of concern and gossip for royal watchers and the general public alike, Kate Middleton has been a source of many rumors due to her long disappearance. Inspiring wild theories and amateur detective work, many had speculated that she had died or that had become tremendously ill or even that she had to keep a low profile due to some scandal or family feud. On the 22nd of March, Kate but a stop to these rumors by releasing an Instagram reel where she dispelled all rumors by announcing that she had developed cancer.

In the candid Instagram speech, Kate explained how she had undergone an abdominal surgery in January, and that she was under the belief that her condition was non-cancerous. Tests after the surgery found that cancer had actually been present, and that she had been advised by her medical team to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, which she is now in the early stages of undergoing.
Kate discussed how huge of a shock it was not only to her but to her entire family, and how she and Prince William have struggled to find a way to explain the issue to their three children George, Charlotte and Louis in a way which is suitable for their age.
Kate emphasized that despite everything she was doing ok, and that she was in the process of healing by helping focus on the thoughts and persons which will help her heal. She thanks William for the love and support he has shown throughout the entire ordeal, as well as the general outpouring of concern and words of kindness she has received from the public.
Kate Middleton ended the announcement with a request that people respect the need that her and her family will have for privacy as they undergo this crisis, as well as providing words of sympathy and reassurance to all those in the world who are currently dealing with cancer, asking them to never lose faith or hope in their recovery.

Her announcement was met with almost universal support and concern, both by officials and regular individuals. Buckingham palace released an announcement on behalf of the king, promising to continue to offer love and support as well as praising Kate for her courage. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and opposition leader Keir Starmer joined together to offer words of support as well, with the former pleading that the media and the public respect her need for privacy. Even Joe Biden and the Secretary of the White House released statements expressing their sadness at the news, offering their thoughts and prayers to Kate’s wellbeing in the hope that she will recover soon.
The British Royal Family has suffered through a series of misfortunate events recently, firstly with the Queens death, then afterwards with King Charles contracting cancer and now Princess Kate Middleton battling cancer as well. The prayers of the public continue to be with them, with the hope that they will resurface from this dark period into one of peace and health again.
