Cannes 2026: The Best Dressed Moments on the Croisette So Far

The 79th Cannes Film Festival has delivered one of its most fashion-forward carpets in years, and it is still unfolding

The 79th Cannes Film Festival has delivered one of its most fashion-forward carpets in years, and it is still unfolding. The dominant mood has not been maximalism for its own sake, nor the stripped-back quiet luxury that dominated red carpets for the past two years. What has emerged from the Croisette is something more deliberate and expressive, a commitment to individuality and craft over trend compliance. The best looks so far have been bold but considered, architectural but wearable, and most importantly, they have felt like choices rather than assignments.

The Standouts

Taylor Russell

Taylor Russell lit up the May 17th carpet in a custom Dior by Jonathan Anderson gown featuring a wraparound floral skirt and a burst of greenery at the bustle, one of the festival’s most talked-about moments and a reminder that she is one of the most quietly fearless dressers working right now. Hoyeon arrived at the Hope premiere in a Louis Vuitton gown with a draped cowl neckline, oversized beaded florals, and an asymmetrically draped skirt, silver, sculptural, and genuinely stunning.

Ruth Negga

Ruth Negga has been the carpet’s most versatile presence, wearing custom Dior at the opening ceremony and returning days later in an Ami tuxedo suit that cut completely against Cannes’ traditional grammar. Both looks worked. Sandra Hüller arrived in a dramatic Chanel feather coat that made a case for outerwear as the real fashion statement of the evening. Diane Kruger chose Givenchy, regal, structured, and impossible to ignore.

Simone Ashley

Simone Ashley reached into the archives for a vintage Alexander McQueen Fall 2005 gown, one of the most historically grounded moments on the carpet this year. Bella Hadid made her long-awaited return to the Croisette in custom Prada, and Cate Blanchett delivered back-to-back moments in Givenchy and Louis Vuitton, the kind of carpet consistency that only someone with her level of fashion authority can pull off across consecutive days.

Demi Moore

Opening night set the bar high: Demi Moore in a Jacquemus sequin gown, Jane Fonda in black sequined Gucci, and Joan Collins bringing full drama in an orchid-inspired dress with black opera gloves by Stéphane Rolland. Five days in, the 2026 Cannes carpet has already produced more memorable looks than most festivals manage in their entirety.
