Macklemore’s Poetic Justice: “The Message is Love”
American rapper Macklemore recently took his activism toward Palestine to another level by delivering a poignant poem during a performance in Seattle. The poem, which he said he wrote that morning, expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian people who are suffering under the Israeli occupation and bombardment. He also criticized the US government for its support of Israel and its complicity in the violence.

“Innocent humans out in Gaza being murdered with our dollars, and those precious human lives are an extension of us,” he said, referring to the US annual aid of billions of dollars to Israel, most of which goes to its military”.
Macklemore also clarified that his poem was not meant to offend anyone, but to appeal to the common humanity and love that he believes everyone shares, adding that he respects and cares for his Jewish brothers and sisters and that he wants peace for all.
“‘Never Again’ means never again for all,” he said, invoking the slogan of the Holocaust survivors.
The American rapper ended his poem with “Free Palestine, The Message is Love” and it was met with applause and cheers from the audience, who appreciated his courage and honesty. Many fans also expressed their support and admiration for him on social media, saying he did more to acknowledge the crisis in Gaza than most politicians.

This is not the first time that Macklemore has spoken out for Palestine. Last month, Macklemore made headlines when he took to the stage at a massive pro-Palestine demonstration in Washington DC, holding a sign that read “No ceasefire, no votes” and calling on President Biden to hold Israel accountable.
