Abu Dhabi’s to Build a Medical City for Women and Children

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, has announced plans to build a new medical city dedicated to women and children’s health that will include a Centre of Excellence for pediatric care, a hospital for women and newborns, a rehabilitation facility, and a mental health center.

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, emphasized that the medical city will enhance Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ecosystem and strengthen its position as a leading healthcare destination.

Purehealth Group:

The medical city will be part of the PureHealth Group, a healthcare provider that operates several hospitals and clinics in the UAE. The group’s co-founder and CEO, Shaista Asif, said that the medical city would offer “world-class, integrated, and specialized services” for women and children, and will leverage research and innovation to improve health outcomes.

The Abu Dhabi center will have a capacity of 250 beds and will provide 29 specialties, including oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, organ transplantation, gastroenterology, and cardiac medicine.

The Centre of Excellence for Pediatric Care will be located at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), which is already a leading hospital in the region, It will have a capacity of 250 beds and will provide 29 specialties, including oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, organ transplantation, gastroenterology, and cardiac medicine. Furthermore, 10 beds will be provided for mental health services and 100 beds for long-term pediatric care.

The hospital for women and newborns will be a new facility that will replace the existing Corniche Hospital, which is currently the largest maternity hospital in the UAE. The new hospital will have 205 beds, with 90 dedicated to children and 15 maternity wards, offering A range of services, such as obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, fertility, and genetics.

The rehabilitation facility and the mental health center will be designed to meet the specific needs of women and children, in addition to offering comprehensive and holistic care. The rehabilitation facility will offer physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as prosthetics and orthotics. lastly, the mental health center will offer counseling, psychotherapy, and psychiatric services, as well as support groups and educational programmes.

Expected to open in 2027 and will serve patients from across the UAE and around the world. The project is part of Abu Dhabi‘s vision to provide high-quality, specialized, and preventive healthcare for its community, and to contribute to the global advancement of medicine.
