American Hospital Dubai launches the first AI-led robotic surgery training center in Middle East & Africa.
American Hospital Dubai, a leader in robotic surgery, has announced the launch of its Center for Surgical Simulation, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence, which provides training to medical professionals in the UAE and the region. The center is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa (MEA). It aims to standardize robotic surgical training and offer fellowship programs that will accelerate the adoption of this technology in the region.

The center is established in partnership with Robotics Surgical Systems (RSS) and UK-based CMR Surgical, the makers of Versius; this state-of-the-art surgical robotic system enables minimally invasive surgery with greater precision and efficiency. Versius is designed to mimic the human arm and allows surgeons to operate with natural hand-eye coordination and ergonomic comfort. The system also features modular portability, intuitive instrument and vision controls, and advanced simulation and training modules.
As the pioneer healthcare provider in the United Arab Emirates, American Hospital Dubai uses Versius in its surgical operations and provides surgeons from urology, OB-GYN, orthopedics, spinal, and general surgery with hands-on training on the system. The hospital is also training 20 Emirati surgeons during the year 2024 in the advanced field of robot-assisted surgeries aka robotic surgery, as part of its commitment to support the UAE Centennial 2071 goals and the 2021 National Agenda indicators and strategic objectives launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Since 2020, the hospital has performed over 1,500 robotic procedures, and it is the first private healthcare organization outside of the United States to receive accreditation for its Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) from the esteemed Surgical Review Corporation, which is located in the United States. In addition, the hospital has conducted numerous training courses for physicians from Egypt, South Africa, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Jordan, and Kuwait, equipping them with next-generation skills.
